Oyster roast season is back in Savannah. Here’s how to celebrate

Oyster roast

When temperatures cool down in Savannah, locals get their shucking knives ready. Mark your calendar for these four annual happenings.

Oyster roast in the yard at The Grey

Trust the award-winning team behind The Grey to host an oyster roast in style. Held in the restaurant’s courtyard in collaboration with Athens, Georgia-based Creature Comforts Brewing Co., this event promises plenty of beers to pair with E.L. McIntosh & Son oysters from Harris Neck, Georgia. (The bivalves made an appearance on chef Mashama Bailey’s episode of “Chef’s Table” on Netflix.) The event is Friday, Oct. 23 from 6 to 8:30 p.m. and tickets are $45 per person.

Oysters, stouts, and bluegrass at Service Brewing Co.

Inhale the smell of fresh, steamed May River Oysters while listening to the sounds of Savannah-based bluegrass band Swamptooth. Held Saturday, Nov. 7 from 6:30 to 8:30, this event doubles as the yearly release celebration for Service Brewing’s beloved Lincoln’s Gift Oyster Stout.

Third annual Georgia Oyster Revival

Back at Starland Yard on Sunday, Nov. 8, from 4 to 7 p.m., this event is a who’s who of Savannah’s culinary community showcasing their creativity with oyster-centric bites. But more importantly, it’s also a vital fundraiser for ECO Georgia’s coastal education and conservation efforts.

The Wyld Dock Bar fifth annual all-you-can-eat oyster roast

Does it get any better than slurping down wild Georgia oysters while watching boats go by? On Sunday, November 15, between 1 and 5 p.m., a $35 wristband grants you access to a 1-hour window of all-you-can-eat oysters. All beverages, from beer and bottles of wine to the Wyld’s signature Painkiller slushie and more, are available to purchase separately. Best of all, proceeds benefit the Humane Society of Greater Savannah.
